How to identify a fake GST bill?
Hemlata Khandenwal / 2021-02-06 04:02:16The government, of India implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST) across the country from 1 July 2017. In the early days, GST was levied at 12% on consumer bills in restaurants without air conditioners (AC) and 18% in restaurants with air conditioners (AC). But currently, the tax rate has been reduced to 5% in restaurants with air conditioners (AC) and without air conditioners (AC). But some restaurant owners are imposing GST from customers by printing a fake GST number bill which is with the customer.
Businesses who have not received the final GSTIN number should use the provisional GST number.
This round of change in tax provision has not been very smooth for people shopping in the case of transaction bills. The reason for this is that many times customers are caught for wrong or fake bills.
Why making fake GST bills?
GST registration is not necessary for all shops and according to this; they cannot even charge GST from you. In the bill which has GST IN number, it is necessary to have a separate break up of Central GST and State GST.
GST levy in old format
It has also been found that many businessmen and shopkeepers are charging GST from old receipts only. VAT or TIN number is written in it. This is wrong behavior. 'From July 1, it has become necessary to take the GST number and bill it. All businesses should immediately go to GST and use “GST IN” in the bill. Central GST and State GST should be mentioned separately in this.
Will the Provisional GST Number Work?
Many shopkeepers are giving bills with provisional GST number and are saying that if the government approved their GST IN, then they will give that kind of bill. This is a wrong practice. It is wrong to collect this from the customer without mentioning the GST IN number in the bill.
The excuse that the GST Registration number is not verified is also wrong. 'Businesses who have not received the final GST IN number should use the provisional GST number. Also, they should file returns on time and follow other rules. Provisional GST number is converted into GST IN. As a customer, you should know whether the shopkeeper or businessman is paying you the right bill.
