The central government has extended the deadline to fill the annual GST Return for the financial year 2019-20 till 31 March 2021. Earlier, the government had extended the Filing period of GST Return from 31 December 2020 to 28 February 2021. This means that the Center has given (second) additional time to file the GST Return to the traders. The Ministry of Finance said that keeping in mind the taxpayers facing taxpayers in filing the returns within the deadline, the government has extended the GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C filling periods for the financial year 2019-20.
Election Commission approval was taken before the extension of the term
The central government has decided to extend the period of the Annual GST return filing after the approval of the Election Commission. GST Return-9 is an annual return this is filed by the businessmen who are registered with the GST by taking GST Registration online. Filings of annual returns are necessary only for those taxpayers, whose annual turnover is more than two crore rupees. At the same time, it is mandatory for registered businessmen with an annual turnover of more than Rs 5 crore to submit buy-sell matching details.
The Finance minister announced that now the taxpayers have got more time to file their annual GST returns. As per the ministry, a notification to extend the date for filing GST returns has been issued. According to traders, the central government has extended the duration to just 31 days, which is slightly less. The will be sufficient for Tax Professionals to fulfill all the necessary responsibilities.
