  • Tracking the return filing will let the taxpayer know about the number of GST Return Filing made by them.
  • It will help the taxpayers to check whether they have missed any GST Returns or not.

  • If the taxpayers hired someone else for filing the returns, they can check the status of whether the person hired is filing the returns on or before the due date.

Different Status of GST Returns Already Filed


Once you have filed your GST returns you can track it with different status as discussed here:


Validated But Not Filed:

In case you have filled the returns and it is confirmed but it is not yet filed, then it will be considered as Validated But Not Filed.


Filed-Valid:

If you have filed the returns and it is confirmed as valid, then it will be termed as Filed and Valid as well.

Filed-Not Valid:

If the returns you have filed are not confirmed as Valid Filing, then it must be invalid. Then, the return will be considered as Filed and Not Valid. In case your Filing shows this status, check this and take the necessary steps.


Steps to track the GST Return Filing Status


For tracking the status of the GST Return Filings the taxpayers need to follow the steps that are mentioned below. 


Step 1: The first and foremost step is visiting the official website of Goods and Services Tax. Click on the link to continue with the same.

Step 2: Log in to the GST Portal with your login credentials and then the dashboard of the GST Portal will appear on the screen.

If you have not yet registered under GST, you will not be able to log in to the GST Portal. So, you must register yourself under GST and get your login credentials from there. Step 3: Once you are logged in, you have to click on the “Services” option next to the Dashboard option.

Step 4: After that, you need to choose the “Returns” option from the “Services” Tab. 

Step 5: Under the “Returns” Tab, look for the “Track Return Status” and then click on it.

Step 6: You will be directed to the next page that displays every detail of the returns paid to date.You will get three different options to track the GST Return Filing. All the options are discussed here


  • Using ARN Number: If you have an ARN number of any return filed you can choose the ARN option. Then write the ARN number in the search bar and hit Enter. The details will appear on the screen.

  • Using Return Filing Period option:  If you want to check any particular Return Filings, you can select this option. Mention the date for which you want to track the details. For example, if you want to check that your GST return filing for March has been filed, then you need to choose the starting and last date of April. After that, click on the search button. You can now see the status of the filing of March.
  • Using the Status option: You can use the Status option to track the GST Return Filing status. You will encounter options related to the status that is already mentioned above. Use any of the following options and track the following status.

 
Once the GST number is taken after registration, the GST returns are mandatory to be paid, even if you have to pay NIL. Also, if your business is not going well, you will have to pay the returns until you have not canceled your GST Number.
