Procedure of registration under ESI

Introduction


ESIC is a government-corporation formed under the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India. The scheme provides full medical care to the employees registered under the scheme during the period of incapacity for repayment of health and working capacity. It provides monetary support to compensate for the loss of wages during periods of absence from work due to illness, maternity and employment injury. The scheme also provides medical care to the dependents of the employees. All organizations and factories employing more than 10 employees should have compulsorily applied for ESI registration within 15 days of the ESI Act, 1948.

Steps for ESIC Registration Online


Step 1 Getting ESI Registration: Establishments and factories should get registered themselves within 15 days of the Act; the employer should apply to the concerned Regional Office by submitting the Employer Registration Form (Form-01).


Step 2 Obtaining Code Number: A 17 digit code number known as Identification Number will be provided which is to be used in all correspondence related to the scheme. Form 1 must also be submitted along with Form 3 (Return of declaration).


Step 3 For Employees: At the time of joining the insurable employment, the employees have to fill a declaration form (Form 1) and submit two copies of the family photo to the employer, which should be submitted by their employer to the relevant ESI branch office.


Step 4 Insurance Number: Then an insurance number will be allotted to the employees for their identification under the scheme.


Step 5 Temporary Identity Card: Employees will also be issued a temporary identity card to avail of medical benefits for themselves and their families for three months.


Step 6 Permanent Photo Identity Card: After that, he will be provided with a permanent photo identity card. There is no need to register again once the registered person changes employment because the same registration can be transferred from one employment to another.
